Manchester Accountants Dunhams preparing for GDPR

General Data Protection Regulation

On May 25 2018 the new GDPR – General Data Protection Regulations come into effect.

The General Data Protection Regulation or (GDPR) as many people are abbreviating it too, will affect any organisation that holds information on any EU citizen. Whether they be customers or employees of your organization, this is about 500 million people.

The ICO. Information Commissioners Office, The UK’s independent authority set up to uphold information rights in the public interest, promoting openness by public bodies and data privacy for individuals. Have created a 12 step document to Guild you through preparing for the General Data Protection Regulations implementation.

Will this affect us as we are leaving the EU?   Yes we will still be trading with the EU even after we have left the EU.

The way you store information about clients and staff is changing, we retain this data as part of our Accounting Services.

In general these changes are updates to the Data Protection Act.

Many of the GDPR’s main concepts and principles are much the same as those in the current Data Protection Act (DPA), so if you are complying properly with the current law then most of your approach to compliance will remain valid under the GDPR and can be the starting point to build from.

Questions we will be exploring in the near future.

How will this affect the accounting world?

How will this affect financial services?
